Synopsis[]
Mork performs a wedding ceremony to marry his friend Eugene and his girlfriend, Holly, thinking that this will enable them to escape 'parental oppression'.
Plot[]
All dressed up, Mindy and Mork return to the apartment after attending a wedding, Mindy enthusing about how much she enjoys a good wedding, but Mork thinking it wasn't good for that sucker in the white dress. The bride, Mindy asks wondering what he means? He assumes so, it was hard to tell with that net over their head. He then talks about the barbaric practices he witnessed, the bride trying to get away but being held back by the midget holding onto her dress, being pelted by white pebbles by the mob outside the church. Tying feet to the back of the car. Amused Mindy explains it was rice they were throwing and they were shoes not feet, all designed to wish the newlyweds prosperity, and sometimes they tie cans to the back of cars too, 'They tie their cans to it too?' Mork looks shocked, before they are interrupted by a heavy knock at the door. With it gone 11pm she wonders who it can be and asks Mork to go see. Heading to the door, he opens it, sees it's Eugene and closes it again, returning to tell her. 'You really amaze me,' she shakes her head, And myself too!' he smiles as she goes to let Eugene in.
Eugene he tells her, is there bags in hand, having decided to run away from home. Angry and upset with his mother. Sitting down on the couch, he relays his story of woe, his mother always telling him what to do, pick up his clothes, eat his vegetables, have a bath. While Mindy tries to hide her smile, Mork looks concerned at his friends 'mistreatment'. When Mindy asks Eugene if running away is the right answer, Eugene tells her he can't take it anymore. Trying to go, Mindy pulls him back, telling him that as much as she hates to break it to him, as bad as he thinks he has it at home, he's no worse off than any other kid. She knows his mother and she's a nice, sweet and fair person, 'So she got to you too', Eugene eyes her suspiciously. Mork however grabs him back and tells Mindy he's granting Eugene parental asylum. Sighing Mindy asks them what's the worst that can happen, Eugene replying 'She could make me beat broccoli' Mork yells making a warding off signal at that. Broccoli he tells Mindy is despised throughout the Universe. The last time he ate it was when he was 3 bleams old, and he still hasn't swallowed it.
In the Music Store the next day, Fred queries Mindy if Eugene's parents weren't upset with him being with them? Not at all, Mindy shrugs, he'd left a note to tell them to forward his allowance to her house. Mindy smiles thinking kids do some crazy things sometimes, Fred chuckling saying that comes as no surprise to a father of a former 4 year old daughter who after being reprimanded for drying the dishes with the cat, packed her things including her pillow, teddy bear and her pine cone collection and resolved to defect. Fascinated Mindy asks him where she went? Nowhere, Fred informs, her only being thwarted by the lack of volunteers to drive her. Mork arrives in, greeting them both, before Cora arrives out from the practice room followed by a pretty little girl of about 10 named Holly who has just had her first piano lesson, having been forced into it by her mother, and not particularly happy about it. When Mork approaches her jokingly introducing himself as Donny Osmond, Holly won't talk to him, because he's a stranger, until Mindy vouches for him. Scanning Holly, Mork ascertains she is also ill disposed towards her mother.
When Cora takes her away to look at practice books, and Mindy heads into the back, Eugene enters for his lesson, but his reaction to Mork's usual greeting with him, indicates that Eugene is still ticked off with his mother as well. Eugene tells Mork that his cousin is so lucky, he's married and his doesn't have to get washed every night. Marriage, he tells Mork is the *only* way to go. In the midst of his depression however he notices Holly across the shop talking to Cora and asks Mork who she is. Holly, Mork tells him, saying her mother is down on her too. Checking her out, Eugene taken with her, tells Mork she's a doll elaborating for a confused Mork, a chick, a fox, real hot stuff. As Cora returns with Holly telling Eugene it's time for his lesson, while Mork quickly checks Holly's forehead, prompting her to ask why? Because Eugene said you were hot stuff he tells her but in fact she's only 98.4, Eugene cringing in embarrassment as Mork lets the cat out of the bag. Holly however, is delighted, asking Eugene if he really said that. Eugene prevaricates however, but Mork calls him on it telling her Eugene called her a fox, a doll and cute poultry. A grinning Holly, approaches Eugene and punches him in the shoulder, telling him 'You're weird!' before leaving behind a lovestruck Eugene and a thoroughly confused Mork.
A day or so later, in the apartment, Mindy is seated at the counter doing her nails, and gets up blowing on them, then flapping her hands trying to get them to air dry quicker just as Mork comes down from the attic. Seeing her, he grabs a hold of her, encouraging her to fly, multiple times. Laughing she tells him she wasn't try to fly, just air dry her nails, she's late for a lunch and has to meet Sally. That's easy he says, grabbing a towel and wiping off the polish. After she 'thanks' him, Mork asks her about Eugene and Holly, why he thought she liked him when she called him weird and punched him, Mindy explaining that boys and girls often punch and push each other when they like each other as a way of getting close. Answering the door to a knock, Mindy watches as Eugene brushes right past her to speak to Mork, wanting to speak alone without 'M.I.D.N.Y' hearing. When she suggests they talk alone up in the attic, Mork punches her in the shoulder, calling her 'bird legs', then chucks her under the chin, saying he'll see her later, 'burro breath'. Really into showing affection.
Upstairs, Eugene tells Mork he thinks he and Holly are really in love. Mork wants to know how he knows and Eugene explains how Holly has called him Piano Mouth, Bozo Breath, and something he's only seen once on the bathroom wall. They have so much in common, the both can't stand milk, liver, bass and mothers. Her mother wanted to get rid of her goldfish, he tells Mork. Why? Because it had been dead for a week. He wishes they could run away together, their problems would be 'solved'. He feels last time he ran away he didn't go far enough. This time he'd go on a ship so the captain could marry them and their parents couldn't bug them anymore. Mork is intrigued to hear a ship captain can marry people. He came here alone on a ship, he tells Eugene, ipso facto he's a ship captain and could marry them. Eugene asks if he'd marry them, and Mork is all for it, telling them to come to the apartment tomorrow after school and it's done! Eugene warns him not to tell anyone. Mork checking if he's sure he's doing the right thing, thinking people only got married when they want to have children. We don't need them, Eugene tells him, they *are* children. Make's sense, Mork notes.
The next day Mindy is working in the Music Store when Mork comes in to greet her with 'Goodbye'. Laughing Mindy asks what he's been up to, and he tells her he's been down in the library as Eugene told him that was the best place to find out about weddings. Mindy wonders why his sudden interest in weddings? Who knows he smirks at her, maybe he's the marrying kind, 'Irrepressible delight at ambiguous response!' Cora overhears him, and wonders if he wants to get married, but he tells her he just has some questions. She explains based off his queries that the bride wears white to symbolize her purity, which is why the groom wears black. They explain how the brides family pays for everything, the role of the brides mother, who does just about everything with her except throw her a shower which is done by the friends.
Later the apartment, Mork is doing his hair, with his finger, when Eugene walks in on him, Mork distracting him with a joke. Eugene tells him he's not sure about getting married. Mork reminds him of items like the broccoli, the liver, the dead goldfish. Sitting with Mork, Eugene wonders if there'd be a race problem, but Mork assures him he can out run her. Handing Eugene his wedding duds and getting him to go changed, then answers the door to Holly, greeting the Princess of the Munchkins with a dress by Mr. Mork of Colorado, and presenting her with a car plate as as wedding license. Telling her to go change in Mindy's room, when she hears the music she and Eugene are to come up to the attic. A little later, in his Uniform, Mork starts to sing the Wedding March. and they pair in their wedding clothes enter. After Mork gets his wedding ceremonies mixed up across different galaxies and continents, Eugene and Holly give him their own vows, to read, before they pull a ring off a soda can and Mork declares them married via the power invested in him through the captainship of his egg. Getting Eugene to step on the can and declaring 'Motza bread!' Mork tells them they can kiss, getting a 'No Way!' from them both. Taking a photo of them 'Watch the Flukie!' he throws Rice Krispies all over them.
That night, Mork still in his suit but bringing down his night gear to get changed when Mindy enters distracted and serious, sensing 'heavy vibes' he asks her what's wrong and she tells him that neither Holly nor Eugene showed up for their music lesson and no one knows where they are. As she's talking she notices he's in his spacesuit and asks why? Because it's his captain's uniform, he replies, and she doesn't have to worry about the kids they're having the best day of their lives, he married them that afternoon. Mindy can't believe what she's hearing, Mork saying he didn't believe what he was hearing when he heard about the persecution by their mothers. But now they're free, staying up late, eating all the candy they can.. Rolling her eyes, Mindy tells him they are too young to be married, that even if he could carry out the ceremony it would make it illegal, and she doesn't care what they told him they're not being persecuted, they're being taught. Taught things that are good for them, that will help them grow up. She explains that kids don't always know what's good for them and as if to illustrate her point both Eugene and Holly come down from the attic, groaning and looking ill, Holly claiming to have 36 Musketeers in her stomach. Gathering up their stuff, Mindy hands it to them and suggests they head on down to her jeep and she'll drive them home. Looking miserable they head out, thanking Mork, subdued. Pointing out how their own parents never would have let that happen to them, Mork begins to see. Parents teach their kids lots of valuable lessons, like never pet a porcupine, never put out a campfire with your face...as he continues to list them, Mindy puts on her coat, pats him on the shoulder and heads out to the kids, making him open the window to yell them after her.
Mork signs in to report to Orson, this time about Marriage. Orson appears never to have heard of it, and Mork explains its a ceremony a man and woman go through when they love each other very much, and they want to have children. Why do they want to have children, Orson asks? So they can make them do all kinds of things they hate, so they can grow up to be better people (or even adults). Orson wonders, don't the children resent that? Some do, some he's heard say that they hate their mothers. And one, Lizzie Borden, took it a little too far. Earth mothers must be really mean, Orson opines. But Mork has his own opinion, the only thing worse than a mother is not having one at all. Orson tells them there's something been meaning to ask him...whether he ever swallowed that broccoli he ate when he was 3 bleams old? Coughing lightly into his hand, Mork opens his mouth wide, telling him its all gone now...then signing off one handed.
