Simon Muntner (August 19, 1930 - Nov. 3 2005) in Brooklyn, New York, USA was a TV comedy writer, who wrote the Season 1 Finale of Mork & Mindy
Biography[]
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., August 19, 1930 he graduated from City College of New York and started out in advertising, writing jokes for stand-up comics in his spare time. He started his own ad agency, but at age 42, he decided to move his family to Los Angeles to break into show business. He soon had his first assignment writing and went on to write hundreds of comedy episodes for American and Canadian television.[1]
In 2004, his first novel, “Deva Ju,” was published.
He died of colon cancer in Marina del Rey, California, 3rd of November, 2005. He was 75. He was survived by his wife Janet, five children and three grandchildren.
Career[]
Muntner got his first writing screen credit in 1973 for "Roll Out" and went to write more than 400 TV episodes, including scripts for “Alice,” “T.J. Hooker,” “The Dukes of Hazzard,” "Enos", “Hunter,” “Private Benjamin,” “Partners in Crime,” “Kung Fu” and “Mrs. Columbo.” He also served as producer on shows including “T.J. Hooker”, "The American Girls" "The Sand Pedro Bums" and as a creative consultant on “Hunter.”
His work on “MASH” Earned him an Emmy Nomination for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series in 1976
Mork & Mindy[]
Simon Munter's contribution to Mork & Mindy was Season 1's' Mork's Best Friend, providing one of Tom Poston's stellar moments during the burial ceremony for Mork's pet caterpillar, Bob.
