Rainbow (aka Joyce) is a friend of Mindy's who she has not seen for several months, prior to Mork's moving in with her, and who appears in Season 1's Mork Runs Down. She is played by actress and improv comic, Susan Elliot.
Character Summary[]
Rainbow is catching up with Mindy after not seeing one another for around three months. During that period Rainbow has gone through some changes, not least having changed her name *to* Rainbow, her real name being Joyce. As her new name might indicate she's also gone full New Age/Hippy, eschewing coffee, soda and even water for natural and organic reasons...but not beer. Now running a Health Food Store 'The Vitamin Vendor' , and after Mindy introduces Mork to her, on hearing he has lost (another) job and digging his off beat quirkiness, she tells him she's looking for a "Revolutionary Moon Child Stock Boy" and asks if he wants to try it out. Which he jumps at.
Rainbow is definitely into her 'substances' and berates her pet owl, which she keeps in her shop and converses with, telling it if it can't handle drugs it shouldn't do them. Pretty out of it herself, she doesn't really notice the weird way Mork is acting when he turns up to his try out. In mid 'Birthday', gradually running down, heading for death and seeking his recharging 'Gleek' but not knowing he is, Mork is chaotically up and down. However, super patient and mellow she keeps trying him out on different aspects of the store and customers, until Mindy rushes in having been in search of him, and gets her to help her get him to the car.
Personality[]
Rainbow is probably some level of high most of the time, but seems in general to be a mellow, relaxed and optimistic 'spirit', super tolerant and open to just about anything, especially fun.

Known to Mindy as Joyce prior to her turning up at the apartment as Rainbow, despite them being very different the two of them evidently get on really well, and Mindy is delighted to see her friend again after three months, and seems to get a real kick out of her.
