Written by Walter Kempley and directed by Jerry Paris, this episode of Happy Days was aired on Tuesday 6th March, 1979, two days before Mork & Mindy's Season 1 episode Mork's Night Out on the 8th of March.
Synopsis[]
Mork returns from 1979 to revisit Richie, this time to learn about the human concept of friendship in the 1950s from Richie's memories, which are shown through clips from past episodes.
Plot[]
Bar Marion, all the Cunningham family, plus Al, Ralph, Potsie, Lori Beth and Chachi are gathered hiding with the room decorated to surprise her on her return with a birthday cake, gathering around the table with her to sing Happy Birthday in full voice, until Richie suddenly realizes he's the only one still singing. Looking around at the others he suddenly realizes they are all frozen in place. Looking around Ritchie hears a familiar sound, one he had previously ascribed to being a dream, until he realizes it's not, and that Mork from Ork has returned and is responsible.
As he looks around, and checks outside, Mork appears behind him, casually leaning up against the coat rack smiling, Richie turning to see him, vindicated. Mork extends greetings to him from the Cosmic Congress, Interstellar Confederation and Mindy...before going on to explain that he is now posted on Earth but in the 1970s. He has come back to visit he says as the pace of life is much slower, humdrum, simpler and cleaner than in the 70s, and to learn more about friendships.
Trivia[]
- Although shown as episode 24 of 27 of that Season of Happy Days this was actually the last episode shot of the season produced to accommodate Robin Williams return.
- Mork would repeat his assertion that he would walk 10 miles in the snow to stand in Mindy's Garbage in S4's Long Before We Met
Quotes[]
- Mork: I bring you greetings from the Cosmic Congress, the Stellar Confederation and Mindy!
- Richie: Mindy? Is that a Heavenly Body?
- Mork: Well she must have something. I'd be willing to walk 10 Miles in the snow to stand in her garbage!
