Kalnik is played by Joe Regalbuto a Neptunian Observer to Earth who becomes a mortal enemy of Mork..
Character summary[]
Kalnik is at first a friendly open fellow alien who through a mix up during a telepathic call to his mother on Neptune gets a 'crossed brain cell' with Mork who is trying to put in a report to Orson. The two not not only share fellow acquaintances but a similar sense of humour, and on top of that Kal, as he insists Mork call him, is the Orkan's Neptunian equivalent, stationed on Earth to observe it's progress. In addition, like Mork he has married an Earth Girl, Tracy Andrews and taken her surname.
Hitting it off Mork invites them on a couples date with him and Mindy, as Kal and Tracy are, since the birth of Mearth, the only couple they have come across they can actually be open and honest about, both about themselves and their child. They get on well, so well in fact that Kal wants to speak to Mork about possibly making more of their abilities on Earth in partnership together.
Everything however transpires to be a lie, bar the fact of who Kal is and that he wants Mork to join him. Kal has tired of his observer role and is intent on recruiting Mork to his own world dominating plans, but has no need for Mindy and is intent on eliminating her, while Mearth to him is just a mutant half breed. The latter of which Mindy overhears which ends their nascent friendship and Mork throws them out. In doing so Kal warns him he has made an enemy and a huge mistake and he will be coming after him.
Neither is Tracy his wife, but rather his android who he deploys to seduce Mork to find out if his role is what it seems to be, and when that fails and she is discovered, she transforms into a bomb, and explodes nearly destroying the apartment and barely missing killing Mork & Mindy, sending the family on the run. Kal pursues them to Hidden Hills Health Farm in Arizona where they've gone to hide, showing abilities to disguise himself and infiltrate their communications, when he turns up as Mindy's father, Fred.
There it is proven his powers are stronger than Mork's, not helped by Mork's non-violence code which allows him to defend himself but not actually attack Kal, and not even being joined by Mearth is enough to overcome Kal, who is only stopped when Mindy effectively freezes him with a fire extinguisher. But even that is short term, as, he recovers to pursue Mork & Mindy back to their apartment and ultimately through time itself.
Personality[]
Kal is a megalomaniacal individual, ostensibly driven mad by the bureaucracy of Earth while simply trying to get a license to open a wine bar, he has come to the conclusion that it would be easier to take it over than try and deal with human rules. He is vicious and violent, with a range of ray guns, using his android as a bomb, with no compunction whatsoever in regards to killing Mindy, and very little in regards to a child, like Mearth.
He is paranoid, not trusting that Mork is truthful about his being purely a peaceful observer of Earth's culture, deploying Tracy to seduce Mork to ascertain the 'truth' of what his ultimate mission on Earth actually is.
In addition he is intensely devious, having infiltrated a government agency, on the chance that Mork did not work with him, he has planted evidence of Mork actually being the dangerous alien intent on taking over the world, so even if does not hunt him down, there will be government forces who will.
Relationships[]
Apart from an affection for his mother (and her ray gun) Kalnik is not shown to have any healthy relationships with anyone, as Tracy is in fact an android used to provide cover for him on Earth and to act as an information gathering/transmission device, and, when required a weapon of assassination.
