KTNS-31 is a local Independent TV Station in Boulder, Colorado at which Mindy McConnell begins to work in S3 (Mindy Gets Her Job) appearing in multiple episodes over Season 3/4
Location[]
KTNS is located at 325 Broadway, on the outskirts of Boulder, Colorado, within sight of the Flatirons.
Run By/Managed/Owned[]
The station is owned by the never seen Mrs Ovits, and at the time of Mindy's hiring, is run by General Manager Miles Sternhagen, who Mindy is assigned to assist. Within a year of her hiring however, Mrs Ovits sacks Mr. Sternhagen (who has a drinking issue), and the reins are handed over to his near polar opposite the fresh out of college, Daniel Pierson.
Context[]
Like most Commercial stations West of the Mississippi, it's call sign begins with K (the TNS most likely standing for Television News Service, the 31 being its registration number). KTNS like most Independent stations fills their broadcast hours with some locally produced television programs, including newscasts, locally focused chat shows, call in shows, children's programs, filmed travelogues, movies, sports, cartoons, and reruns of network programs which, after completing their initial runs, were sold into syndication. Hence KTNS showing mixed Network shows from CBS - e.g. Gomer Pyle, USMC, Petticoat Junction; Perry Mason, and ABC - e.g. The Big Valley; The Partridge Family. Texas Wheelers.
Locally produced programming includes 'Newsline'; 'Wake Up Boulder/Stop Sleeping Boulder'; 'Dewey Fishbeck's Farm Report'; 'Call Dr. Lincoln', 'Kartoon Karnival' and the very short lived 'Rumor Has It'
Apart from Mindy, who multi-tasks hosting 'Wake Up Boulder/Stop Sleeping Boulder' (Metamorphosis, the TV Show), fills in on the Newsteam (Mindy Gets Her Job / Old Muggable Mork / Cheerleaders in Chains), Produces 'Call Dr Lincoln' (Mindy and Mork) as well acts in a supportive role (at least under Sternhagen) to him and others (particularly Dewey Fishbeck) (Mork Meets Robin Williams / My Dad Can't Beat Up Anybody) *and* does some Investigative Reporting (Cheerleaders in Chains),
KTNS is also the place of employment for:
- Camera man Jake Loomis,
- Sportscaster Stan Jackson,
- Weathercaster Judi Marino
- Call-In Psychologist: Dr. Joni Lincoln
- Newscaster: Larry Carroll
- Children's Presenter: Skipper Bill
- Never seen Anchorman: Dewey Fishbeck
Episodes Appeared[]
The station (and the fairly useless anchor Dewey Fishbeck) are mentioned many other times through Season 3 and 4 as it's Mindy's place of work, but actual appearances of the station either in house or on TV occur in:
- Mindy Gets Her Job
- Mork Meets Robin Williams
- Old Muggable Mork
- I Heard It Through the Morkvine
- Mindy and Mork
- Limited Engagement
- Mama Mork, Papa Mindy
- Metamorphosis, the TV Show
- Cheerleaders in Chains
Behind the Scenes[]
KTNS is actually the U.S. NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology). Located at 325 Broadway, it is a private facility that is not open to the public. The U.S. atomic clock is located here.
