Joe Howard (b. November 24, 1948) is an American actor who appeared as The Veterinarian at Denver Zoo operating on Doc's mother in Season 3's Mork, the Monkey's Uncle.

Biography[]

Joe Howard was born on November 24, 1948 in Yonkers, New York, USA. He and his family lived in Burma (Myanmar) for a time as a child, while his Engineer father worked on the rebuilding of a dam that had been bombed in World War II.

He earned his road stake to move to New York City to pursue acting by working as a private investigator for Pinkerton's National Detective Agency's Albany, NY office.

Joe was married to Sharon Howard (29 November 1975 - 16 April 2010) until her death), the couple having two children including the actor Jeremy Howard.

Career[]

Joe worked on the Broadway show "Shenandoah" with John Cullum in 1975 both as Stage Manager and as part of the Ensemble and "So Long, 174th Street" with Robert Morse in 1976, as well as the pre-Broadway run of "Cowboy" with Gary Sandy. Has been in more than one hundred television commercials.

His first screen credit was his role in Mork & Mindy starting a 40+ year career in TV and Movies.

From 1987 to 1994, played one of the very few adult, live-action, children's heroes on national TV as George Frankly, beating out Phil Hartman for the role in PBS's "Mathnet", a serial parody of Dragnet (1951), shown in the context of a larger series called Square One Television (1987), and was the most popular program produced by Children's Television Workshop since "Sesame Street".[1]

Mork & Mindy[]

Joe Howard played The Veterinarian at the Denver Zoo, that Exidor, Mork and a 'disguised' Doc meet at the Zoo's infirmary. After Mork knocks on the surgery door, the Vet comes out and says he can't talk he's in the middle of a complicated surgery. Leaving Mork with Doc alone, the Vet comes back out a little while later delighted to see Doc there. Doc's mother being the one he was operating on, but who is fine now. Telling Mork to hold on when he goes to go, that he has a surprise for him. A moment later, a nurse carries out a baby chimp, Doc's new baby brother.
