The Gorgles is an extreme biological state that occurs in Orkans immediately prior to death.

A 'Birthday' on Ork does not refer to the actual day of an Orkan's birth or 'hatching', but rather to a day of 'Re-Birth' . These Birthdays have to be carefully managed, and occur after the passage of 2000 Zarms (around 160 years Earth time) of their lifespan.

On that day, essentially an Orkan's life force runs out, and if it is not restored, they contract what is known as 'The Gorgles'. The Gorgles manifest themselves in an inability to think, act and speak clearly, symptoms including memory loss, loss of physical control, narcolepsy, hyperactivity, auditory and visual hallucinations and a gradual draining of the ability to communicate and all faculties which ultimately will kill them.

The only way to avoid this is a very carefully timed full life force/energy recharge, which will prevent them from being killed. This recharge is delivered by means of a 'Gleek', an egg shaped device filled with a special mix of chemicals, that is struck to the forehead and transfers a new charge of life force energy to the Orkan (Mork Runs Down), which will last them for another 2000 Zarms and their next 'Birthday'.

The Gleek, howeve,r cannot be administered at any time in the run up to the Orkan's Birthday but during a precise window on the day. Any attempt to use it before that time will not result in the Gleek being activated, as occurs with Mork when he tries to administer it to himself before the due time.

Once properly administered however, it will have a near instantaneous effect and restore the Orkan to a full energetic state.
