Every Doing Has His Day was the seventh Mork and Mindy themed episode from the ABC-TV The Mork & Mindy/Laverne & Shirley/Fonz Hour animated series.
Summary[]
Fed up with Doing's shenanigans, Fred relegates the mutt to the back yard. Mork concocts a plan to make Doing look like a hero by posing as a burglar and having Eugene snap a picture of Doing chasing him away, but complications ensue when Mork unknowingly joins forces with Clarence the Cat Burglar, Boulder's most-wanted man.
Plot[]
Breakfast time at the McConnell's House with Fred, Mindy and Mork at the table when Fred hears the paper boy's bike bell and asks Mork if he wouldn't mind getting the paper. Mork, TV focused as ever notes that on TV the family dog is always the one to bring in the paper and promptly whistles for Doing, telling him to fetch. Unfortunately for Mork he's not specific enough and Doing returns carrying the paper boy's bike and tossing the paper boy into the house. Furious about his wrecked new bike, the paper boy sounds off at Fred who is forced to pay him off with enough to buy a new one. Furious himself, Fred announces he's had it with Doing. Mork tries to tell him it was his fault, that he should've been more specific about it being the paper and not the boy But Fred's not accepting that, saying Mork is just trying to protect Doing. He's had it with Doing raiding the refrigerator, sleeping in his chair and hogging the TV watching dog food commercials. Telling Doing he is not a house dog and belongs outside he banishes the Hibijonee, and says he's going to buy a dog house for him to sleep outside.
True to his word, Fred has Doing in the dog house, but the Hibijonee can't get comfortable, and climbs a tree in the garden to hang off a branch to get some sleep. Watching him, Mindy tells Mork she's worried about Doing catching a chill sleeping alone outdoors off a tree like that. Mork assures her he won't be alone, and promptly swings up onto the branch to join him, saying he couldn't sleep without Doing cuddling up at his feet. Not able to do more, Mindy tells Mork she has to go, the Music Store open late that night and having promised Fred she'd help out there that night, but asks him please to find a way to redeem Doing so they 'both' can come back in the house. He promises to put on his thinking Egg and think up a brainstorm as she heads off saying she'll see him that night.
Later however, having explained the situation to Eugene as he and Doing walk with him, Mork doesn't look upbeat. Eugene however tells him its a snap, and suggests that Mork teach Doing how to fetch the paper, that Mr. McConnell will love a dog that could do that. But Mork tells him they already tried that and 'Narkeled' everything up. As he says that however they hear a large dog barking and look up to see one chase an intruder out of a local house, taking a chunk out of his trousers. The delighted owner praising the dog and giving him a treat. Mork however is even more pleased, seizing on the idea to teach Doing how to be a watchdog so Fred will see he belongs inside the house. Nothing, he says, is more valuable to a household then a super watchdog, and by the time he's done Fred will be begging him to have Doing back inside the house. Eugene is dubious however, wanting to know how Mork is going to do that, Doing not remotely resembling a watch dog, in fact he doesn't even look like a dog. Mork explains his plan. He will disguise himself as a burglar breaking into the McConnell's house, Eugene will borrow his father's camera, and take pictures of Doing chasing Mork away. Eugene is impressed and counts himself in, Mork telling him he'll meet him that night at Mindy's.
That night, wearing a hat and long raincoat and dark glasses, Mork slides out of the bushes across the street from Mindy's house using his finger as a flashlight. As he does however, he sees someone at the window of the house beside him, who on seeing Mork beckons him over. The guy is clearly breaking in, but Mork makes the good hearted assumption that he's the McConnell's new neighbor. Laughing at the idea the guy praises what he thinks his Mork's mechanical hand with a built in flashlight as part of his 'get up'. Introduces himself as Clarence he tells him he's forgotten his skeleton key, asking Mork to help him get the window open. Happy to help Mork easily opens the window with his powers, amazing Clarence who again thinks its the mechanical hand Mork 'has'. Thinking Mork is a real pro, he asks him if he's cased the McConnell house, Mork pointing out they don't make suitcases that big. Jerking a thumb at Mindy's house he asks Mork what kind of goodies they have in there. Mork considers, listing off fancy TV's, Fred's grandmother's sterling silver, all the money for Mindy's college education, and ten years of Orson's allowance money. Impressed, Clarence makes the suggestion the go in together on the job. Mork thinks that's a great idea, thinking the two of them together can convince the home owner he needs protection, which Clarence finds hilarious.
As they get to the house, Mork stops him, wanting to know if he has a mask, which Clarence promptly puts on. Sneaking past the sleeping Doing hanging on the tree, which Clarence doesn't see, Mork opens the back door with his finger. Stepping inside, Mork checks his ankle watch while Clarence gets down to business, grabbing the TV and whatever he can fit in his swag bag. Eugene arrives bang on time with the camera and Mork goes to let him in. Mork tells him great job, and instructs him to go bring Doing inside while he goes to hide in the bushes. Eugene says he'll whistle when he's ready and Mork can come in through the window just as they planned.
But as Mork heads for the bushes he spins around on hearing Mindy yelling for help. Rushing up to her he covers her mouth with his finger, reassuring her that it's just him, and telling her to be quiet or she'll spoil everything. Spoil what, Mindy demands along with wanting to know what he's doing dressed like a burglar. On hearing Eugene's whistle he tells her there's no time to explain now and makes his way to the window where Clarence appears with his bag. Mork opens that window to, to Clarence's thanks, the burglar climbing out. Alarmed and recognizing Clarence, Mindy tries to tell Mork who it is, but he cuts her off, introducing him to her as Clarence their new neighbor who is helping them. He's helping himself, she corrects vociferously pointing to the bag he's carrying, saying he's Clarence the Cat Burglar the most wanted man in town. Clarence heading at full speed for his car, as Eugene emerges with Doing wanting to know what's keeping Mork. Utterly bewildered and unnerved Mindy wants to know from Mork what is going on?!
Eugene and Mork explain what the plan was to let Doing back in the house, Mindy groaning at how the real burglar came instead before seeing Clarence speed away. Telling them all they have to catch him and get all their stuff back before her Dad finds out, Mork leads her and Doing to his Grimbel Pazetti Egg Car, Eugene calling that he'll catch up with them later as he has to get his camera back to his dad. Mindy is encouraged at their quickly gaining on Clarence, Mork telling her the Pazetti is the hottest egg ever made. Aiming to blow out Clarence's tires with his finger, Mork misses however and hits an overhanging wrecking ball which smashes into a wall nearby raining bricks down on them and blocking their path, letting Clarence get away.
Reduced to searching on foot, they move through the streets of Boulder, until Mork's eyes light up pointing across the street to Clarence's car parked outside an apartment building. Mindy points out they'll never find out which apartment he's in. Little Mama and her Little Mork won't he says, but Doing will. Sending Doing to it, Doing hops up onto the side of the building, and slides his highly extendable tail with its eye into one apartment then another and another, waking people up, freaking them out and causing an uproar, every light in the building coming on. Unsurprisingly Doing's tail takes a beating, and as he starts to retract it, Mindy doesn't think it's any use, he'll never find Clarence, only for Doing to react suddenly, and take off into the building, Mork and Mindy on his tail. He leads them to a door but Mindy find it's locked. Mork assures her he can open it easily with his finger, but she stops him telling him that's breaking and entering, they need to call the police. Mork tells her that's good thinking and promptly hammers on the door with a resonant deep English voice, calling on the inhabitants to open up in the name of the law, and that he's from Scotland Yard. But Clarence isn't buying it, calling back that he's the Queen of England.
Mork tries again, this time telling Doing to use his sound effects to sound like the real police. This time it works, Clarence panicking, But has a back up plan. Calling on them to come in, he throws a rope out the window, figuring by the time they get in he'll be on the ground. Having been given permission to come in, Mork tries to use his finger as a key to open the door but it gets stuck. Telling his 'favorite female' not to worry, that there's nothing wrong with his shoulder, Mork easily bashes the door in, running into the apartment with the door still stuck on his finger, but only to see Clarence abseil down the outside of the building. Telling Mindy to leave it to him, Mork does an Indian Rope trick, recoiling Clarences rope and bringing him back just shy of the window, before he tells Doing to 'Fetch'. Wrapping his tail around the light fitting, Doing dives out the window, grabs Clarence pulls him back inside and ties him up with his tail.
Back at home, Mork and Mindy sit on the couch together watching a full report on the strange 'mixed-breed' dog that single handedly stopped and caught the most wanted cat burglar in the city. While Doing sits at the kitchen table, being waited on by Fred, who brings him a full plate of ham and eggs. Something that Doing hoovers up in a fraction of a second with his tail, to the families amusement.
