Dickie Nimitz played by Paul Reubens is a former Boulder High School Classmate of Mindy's who we meet in Season 2's Long Before We Met
Character Summary[]
Dickie is a former classmate of Mindy, her boyfriend at the time Steve Sanders, and Glenda Faye, who we see both at Mindy's High School Reunion and, when Mork travel's back in time, at their Senior Prom. Little appears to have changed about Dickie in the intervening time. While Mindy and her crew were among the popular kids, Dickie was a wannabe operating on the peripheries, and appears to have been largely regarded as the class dweeb/nerd, socially awkward, trying too hard, and ending up on the school committees.
During the High School Reunion, Dickie is on the Reunion committee, and makes jokes about taking Mindy & Mork to the library which was obviously his place of choice for hitting on girls. And evidently had some success with the ladies, as another of their classmates, Althea, very fondly recalls her time in the library with him. After Mindy has been reunited with her High School boyfriend, Steve, and is dancing with him, Dickie sits with Mork, who he calls Mark, and regales him with tales of how hot and heavy Mindy & Steve used to be, along with revealing his own propensity for voyeurism, getting beaten up by Steve for spying on them when they were necking. Dickie's stories, and pointing out of Steve's continued small kisses planted on Mindy, pretty much indicating that Mork has no chance against Steve now they are back together is the chief catalyst for igniting Mork's jealousy, and his journey back to Mindy's Senior Prom, to see if Mindy would still have chosen him.
At that Prom, Dickie is without a date, and on the Prom committee throwing his weight around when Mork in his disguise as a Russian exchange student, tries to enter. It's confirmed that Dickie has been pursuing Mindy, chasing after her since 2nd grade, with absolutely no success, and is resentful of Steve, and scoffs at Mork's assertion, that he is going to marry her. Despite his calling Steve a 'nerd', Dickie chases after Steve to use his popularity as an access card for stuff like cadging beer from the football players in the guys bathroom. He also tries to be the class cut-up without much success.
Personality[]
Dickie tries too hard. Your classic nerd stereotype, he however, doesn't see himself at that at all, and both wants to be part of the in crowd and is resentful of them at the same time.
Relationships[]
Mindy - Dickie's obviously known Mindy for a long time, given they were in 2nd grade together, but his pursuance of her is obviously on overkill as she is clearly uncomfortable around him and keen to make a quick getaway at the earliest opportunity.
Steve - Dickie seems to both resent Steve (especially over Mindy) when young and see him as his quasi best friend using him to get into best places. After 10 years has passed, Dickie seems to have come down on the side of idolizing Steve, and idealizing him and Mindy.
