Derrick is a friend and neighbor of Glenda Faye Comstock and lives in the same apartment complex with her, and TNT, and others like Pepper. He appears in Season 3's Mork, the Swinging Single and is played by William Bumiller.
About Derrick[]
Derrick is a poseur. Male model good looking, he evidently doesn't feel the need to talk much, preferring to pose, smolder and pout as if the cameras were on him, while his friend and neighbor Todd Norman Taylor does all the talking. A yuppie before his time, with jumper tied around his shoulders, he uses a pipe he doesn't actually smoke, and even poses as he sits.
Mindy encounters both him and TNT in Glenda's apartment, in the Singles Apartment Complex, in the aftermath of Mork's disastrously putting her jeep through the floor of her apartment in an attempt to pull a prank to make her laugh. Something that has made her so angry she considers moving in with Glenda and ending her living arrangements with Mork.
Unlike TNT who makes active moves on Mindy, Derrick doesn't seem to feel the need to hit on the ladies, evidently confident in them flocking to him, and probably more in love with himself than anyone else, requiring a full 20 minutes to change just to go next door to TNT's jacuzzi.
Both his and TNT's polar opposite but equally shallow approaches to Mindy and Glenda are pivotal in Mindy's putting aside her exasperated anger at Mork's actions at home, hitting home to her that as much as he may be trying, what he does he does because he cares about her, and sending her back home to him.
