About Deputy Ed Tilwick[]
Ed Tilwick, a Deputy with the Boulder County Sheriff's Department, is an old friend of Fred McConnell's who, on noticing the lights on in the McConnell's Music Shop way after hours, stops by to check out that things are okay. Only to find his friend drunk and distressed.
Fred shows him the bottle of champagne he's been drinking from, and offers Ed a drink, only for Ed to find it empty. The bottle, a worked up Fred informs him was a very special bottle that he had been keeping for Mindy's wedding since she was 10 years of age. And which, to his old fashioned and puritanical way of thinking, is no longer of any use because Mindy, is now living with a man. Mork. All his wedding plans for her, he feels, down the pan.
Ed Tilwick, being an old friend, and knowing Mindy finds that hard to believe, but Fred assures him it's true, and not only that but the guy she's living with is basically an out and out Bozo, living off his daughter.
In order to help out Fred and, to his mind, Mindy, Ed offers to take a hand. But Fred points out he can't arrest Mork for living with his daughter. But Ed purports to put the frighteners on Mork and scare him off her and out of town. Something that Fred accepts gratefully.
However, the next day after Mindy has gone to work Ed Tilwick, arrives to Mindy's Apartment to find Mork trying to revive Mindy's Egg supply (fellow space travelers) from the refrigerator. He immediately gets the same 'loser' impression of him as Fred, when Mork tells him he finds Mindy going to work, and work in general, a strange concept. He accuses Mork of living off of Mindy and starts to get the impression that Mork may not be all there after he accuses him of being a lowlife and tells Mork to take off to which a confused Mork says he just landed. The final straw comes when Mork slides closer saying he noted the uniform, and unnerves Twilick when he asks him in his real Orkan voice if he's a member of Space Patrol and if Orson has sent him to help with the Eggs, before Twilick accidentally sits on one of them.
When Ed returns to the Music Store he quietly tries to have a word with Fred, to tell him things didn't go quite as planned. That ultimately he had to arrest Mork as the guy was clearly crazy. Overhearing them, and figuring out the conversation was about Mork, a furious Mindy confronts the two men, and Tilwick confesses he arrested Mork and that now Mork is likely going to face a commitment hearing the next day. Mindy storming off blaming her father, and Fred guiltily trying to blame Ed.
** Note - Though it's not 'officially' canon, Ed Tilwick does make another appearance, in the novelization of the Season 2 episode Mork in Wonderland, Mork & Mindy 2: The Incredible Shrinking Mork, where it's revealed (when Mindy goes to the police considering putting in a missing person's report for Mork in case he turns up somewhere else) that he has become Boulder's Sheriff.
