Charles Thomas Murphy (May 3, 1941 - September 9, 2006) was an American stage and screen actor who appeared as one of the three muggers (Mugger #1) who robbed Cora on her return to Boulder, and who Mork & Cora return to mete out the Orkans own particular form of justice to, in Season 3's Old Muggable Mork.

Biography[]

Charles Thomas Murphy was born on May 3, 1941 in Scranton, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania to Marcella McGee Murphy and Charles T. Murphy Sr, one of four brothers and two sisters, and garnered the nickname 'Corky'. Attended the University of Scranton and Catholic University. [1]

A member of Actors Equity, SAG and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.

In 1982 he suffered a debilitating injury which ultimately curtailed his career. He died at age 65 of natural causes on September 9, 2006 in Hollywood, California, USA, and was laid to rest in Cathedral Cemetery in his home town of Scranton, PA.[1]

Career[]

On stage Charles Murphy perfomed in productions both on and off Broadway and in LA., as well as local productions of The Odd Couple and A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to Forum in the Poconos and in Scranton Public Theatre.

His first screen credit came in Sanford and Son in 1975, going on to appear in many staples of 70s and early 80s, including two of the mutliple spin offs of The Mary Tyler Moore Show in Phyllis and Rhoda, and the two spin offs from Happy Days in Laverne & Shirley and Mork & Mindy. He also appeared in several movies such as Nickelodeon and History of the World, Part I.[2] Exceptionally busy for the first 7 years of his screen career, the accident he suffered reduced his further screen appearances to just 2, his final screen role coming in the 1992 TV Movie For Richer, For Poorer.

Mork & Mindy[]

Murphy played the first of the three Muggers that had previously accosted Cora on her way back to Mindy's Apartment and mugged her. After Mork resolves to help restore the confidence of a depely shaken Cora, he returns with her, in disguise as an old woman, to face them down. Using his powers to 'age' the muggers when they appear, Cora metes out her own kind of justice.
