Ambrosia Malspar is a meter maid in Boulder, Colorado who appears in two episodes of Mork and Mindy, in Season 2, The Exidor Affair and Exidor's Wedding, and is played in the episodes by Georgia Engel.
Character Summary[]
Ambrosia, is a meter maid living in a Singles Apartment Complex in Boulder, Colorado who, travelling on her scooter during the course of her duties, accidentally chalks the waders of Exidor as he's lying on the road by the curb 'under his Burro'. Struck by him as being so different(!) from the button-down men she normally dates, Ambrosia is swept off her by feet by him. Exidor mentions that she is a member of the 'Hogsbreath Gulch' Malspars, as one might a socially connected family, but whether this is accurate or merely one of Exidor's eccentricities it's not clear.
Describing Exidor to Mindy as kind, considerate, a snappy dresser, and with a swell sense of humor, Ambrosia is well aware that his entourage (and his burro) are invisible. However, they are real to Exidor, and he has never lied to her so far. As she explains it to Mindy, she doesn't feel she has the right to say to him whether they are real or not, as, lots of people believe in men from outer space, she's never seen one, but that doesn't mean they aren't real. Given the situation, Mindy cannot really argue differently.
However, while she is annoyed by the intrusive Pepe from his entourage, she confesses to Mindy that she is using him as a partial shield for not marrying Exidor. Ambrosia loves Exidor but regards herself as old fashioned. He assumes they are getting married, but he has never told her he loves her, and has never actually asked her to marry him.
Once Mork and Mindy manage to get him to break through his psychological barrier to saying the words, she accepts his proposal happily.
Their marriage plans proceed quickly, until Mork with the best of intentions, tracks down Exidor's long lost mother Princess Lusitania, who now that she has found her son again, doesn't want to share him. Once again, Mork and Mindy go to bat to try and get the couple down the aisle, with Mork finally breaking through Lusitania's emotional wall to support her son and welcome a daughter in law into her life, and Ambrosia and Exidor are married.
Mork's prediction however (The Exidor Affair) that their marriage will last forever is however, false optimism, as by the end of the following year it is apparent that the marriage is well over as Exidor recounts that his "wife left him" (Reflections & Regrets). Why this happened is not delved into, but Ambrosia is sane and it is likely she was unable to continue living with Exidor's mental illness, and wild behavioral shifts/actions, or she could no longer stand the presence of his annoying and intrusive imaginary friend Pepe, along with the many others in his entourage.
Personality[]
As Mindy asserts, Ambrosia is a very special person. With no irony intended. Sweet natured and positive, she is, while being entirely sane herself, able to take the extremities of Exidor's behavior (which leave Mork's in the dust) in her stride, and finds him exceptionally charming and sweet.
Old fashioned and romantic, she does not feel as if she can marry him however until he at least does two things that would be expected of any suitor, confess his feelings for her, and propose properly. Once he does however, she happily accepts him.
However given their relationship ends, it must be assumed that even Ambrosia's patience with Exidor (and perhaps his eccentric family to boot) finally ran out, as she left him, souring his attitude to relationships (Limited Engagement / The Wedding) going forward.
